The little sequencer that could, Intellijel’s Steppy packs a ton of fun into a small footprint. You can check out my full review here: https://ask.audio/articles/review-intellijel-steppy
This oscillator was definitely fun to explore. Super dense, with a ton of possibilities. You can check out more of my thoughts here along with some audio demos: https://ask.audio/articles/review-instruo-cl-dual-voltage-controlled-oscillator
Since my system was made for processing field recordings, and because I already have an Octatrack to take care of my sampling needs, I hadn’t really paid much attention to the sampling modules out there for eurorack. However, getting Nebulae into my rack was a game changer. Being able to play back field recordings from the rig meant I didn’t have to rely on an external source. Furthermore, being able to quickly record and loop an incoming signal and then play around with it using granular goodness has been a lot of fun.

In March of 2019 I decided to write an article on portable power options for synthesizers. I was interested in finding something for my own system, but I also found it to be a confusing thing to research. Naturally this made it a perfect topic for an article. While writing this article, I also started my Modular By Nature Youtube series. In these videos, I use my eurorack synthesizer to process the sounds of the environment in real-time to produce a piece of music. In most of these videos I’m using some kind of portable power pack to power my synth as well as a preamp for the shotgun mic.
Portable power is an area where the technology is evolving very quickly, so there’s bound to be new options available since I wrote the article. I’d love to hear of any new alternatives that you have come across to power your gear, or just hear about how you use synths in a portable setting!
